As my professor told me “A person is more likely to return to a restaurant if the service was perfect and the meal was just alright, whereas the meal was perfect and the service was not the best.” This quote can tells you about fine dining, it is not based on the quality of food alone, but the service you provide. Guests in a fine dining industry will notice the overall appearance of the staff before anything. The staffs personality and sanitation is just as important as the meal they are about to serve. Upon entering a fine dining restaurant you can tell how much planing went into the decor and atmosphere. Sure a customer will look at the decor in a fast food restaurant like McDonald’s, but if they wanted to go to a restaurant based on that alone they would go to a fine dining facility, like Swiss Chalet or Don Cherry’s.
You can say Fast Food can kind of be like a “meal on the go”. You can eat your meal easily in a vehicle or sitting on the sidewalk. In a fast food restaurant they do not have to worry about what side they serve your meal or where your utensils are placed on the table, or if you are even to be given utensils at all. There is no concern if they do not serve your drink in the proper glass, or if they neglect to remove your meal when you are ready for dessert. In a fine dining restaurant, these actions matter. A guest will notice what side they are served and where their utensils are placed. If these actions are not taken properly, a restaurant can and probably will be given a bad review.
Many people see fast food as a much cheaper price compared to meals at a fine dining facility when in actuality you can get a great meal in a fine dining restaurant for the same price as a meal in a fast food restaurant, or cheaper. I have noticed the price of many meals in the fast food industry raise a great deal in the past years which makes them of equal price as a meal in a fine dining restaurant.
Comparing fine dining and fast food is like comparing winter and summer, the only thing they have in common is that they are seasons. Honestly, how can you compare a greasy juicy hamburger and fries to a boneless chicken breast and mashed potatoes? The way I see it, the type of food you desire is based on your mood.
REFERENCE
Fine Dining doesn't necessarily mean sophisticated. Fine dining allows the patron to enjoy food they may not experience typically, an dine a unique way. Chain restaurants don't really match up, and shouldn't be considered.
